Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City

By: Ashley

For Fans Of: The Arcade Fire, Interpol, and The Arctic Monkeys

Bloc Party consists of four English indie band members with their critically acclaimed previous album, "Silent Alarm". With the wonderful lead singer Kele Okereke.

I personally think they have a wonderful unique sound that seems to give me a sense of nostalgia and optimistic feeling at the same time. Their lyrics are very simple but a definite teen edge to them stating in which many situations teenagers face, such as trying to stand out out but yet trying to fit in the social norm. The cd also expresses the common pains of love and political issues. The diversity of their cd is quite impressive making each song memorable.

Recommendations:
"Uniform" - A very easily relatable song, about growing up and realizing how conformed/corrupt the world has become. My favorite line: "The TV taught me how to sulk and to love nothing".

"Hunting For Witches" - In a sense it's a parody of the "War On Terror" sending a very true message on how "fear will keep us in place".

"Kruezburg" - A song about the search for love, slightly sad but very moving. I think I like it because of the German references in to song.
