Dixie Chicks - Home

By: S6 Staff - Tom
Home. It's where we always know we can go and be safe. The Dixie Chicks play it anything but safe in this album, however. This was the album that sparked all the controversy over Natalie Maines and our lovely President. Though it's not their newest album, I personally believe it's their best album. When the Chicks recorded this album, you can obviously tell that there was nothing too taboo or controversial to put in. The Chicks have a huge success in Home.
Music-wise, this album, with the exception of 4 songs, is all slow songs. Though some may think it boring, it works in a way you won't know until you listen to this phenomenal album. There are ups and downs, and even one down-right HILARIOUS track, but the entire album is resolved in the last track. It's almost like a story of love, heartbreak, and closure. It's a musical masterpiece that no one should pass up.
Recommendations:
"Travelin' Soldier" - This is definitely the saddest song on the album. It's about a small-town girl who gets a taste of reality in a way that no one should ever have to endure. This is a MUST-BUY!
"White Trash Wedding" - Ah, White Trash Wedding. How I love your absolutely hilarious lyrics and equally comical beat. This track is a comical look at a traditional southern wedding. It's absolutely hilarious.
"Landslide" - When I tell my friends about this song, I usually tell them, "Fleetwood Mac did it first, but the Dixie Chicks did it ten times better". And I'm not lying. Natalie's voice shines through on this beautiful track of changing and family. A great song.
