Mae - Singularity

It surprises me how much Mae has grown in just 4 years. Remembering when Dave and Jacob were writing their first song, "Embers and Envelopes," and then looking at them now. Though some disagree, I personally think Mae's albums get better and better. Singularity is a big breakthrough for Mae. Mae fans are used to a mellower side of Mae, full of soft melodies. Though they didn't put that completely aside, Mae captured a more lively side of them. The album includes instruments and styles the band has never used before. Another nice touch is that it features vocals from every band member. That's one thing Mae is known for; team work. Every song they write is written by the band as a whole. Unlike most bands now a days where one member writes everything, and the rest just play. Mae has worked long and hard to put this album together and it shows. The album is started off with the hidden track "Last Transmission," which you can find when rewinding a hard copy of the CD until about -1:30 on the first track. "Last Transmission" is only about 1:20 long, but the perfect introduction to the album. The album then features some songs with a different style we haven't heard from Mae before like "Telescopes" and "Rocket." They also added lively tracks like "Sometimes I Can't Make It Alone" and "Sic Semper Tyrannis," while including mellow songs we're used to like "Jest Let Go" and "Home." Singularity has quickly become one of my favorite albums of all time, along with Mae's The Everglow, and Mae quickly became my favorite band of all time. Every song on this album is incredible both musically and lyrically, and I'd recommend this album to everyone, even if you're not a Mae fan. It's hard to imagine how Mae will be able to top this one.
Recommendations:
"Brink of Disaster" - This is a great way to start off the main part of the album. It's somewhere between up-beat and slow. The lyrics are very well written. A great track.
"Release Me" - This is one of the slowest songs on Singularity. Strong lyrics and melodies make this one of my favorites off the album.
"Home" - One of my favorite Mae songs, and my favorite on Singularity. This song is amazing, I love it.
"Reflections" - It's been true since Destination: Beautiful, Mae has always known how to close an album [putting hidden tracks aside]. The lyrics and melodies are strong, and throughout the song Mae switches styles, which adds up to make it a masterpiece of a song.
