2006 was definitely a good year for Akon. His second full length album, "Konvicted" topped the charts and spawned huge club hit, "Smack That." Akon, (actual name Aliaune Thiam) grew up in Sengal and later moved to New Jersey in the United States. He was then introduced to hip-hop there, and soon developed a love for music. However, he also ended up in jail. While jail is terrible, is did provide him with ample material to sing about. This would later become his first cd, "Trouble." While liked, it didn't make too much a splash in the music industry. However, Akon came back in 2006 with an all-new album that you'd have to been deaf to not have heard about.
Recommendations:
"Don't Matter" - Akon's latest single of his second album, "Don't Matter" shows another side of the singer that likes to smack that. He sings about defending a relationship no matter what. It's a cool message and the song is even cooler.
"Shake Down" - This is the first song of the "Konvicted" album. Good decision too. It's upbeat and heavy hitting.
"Bananza (Belly Dancer)" - This track is from his first album, "Trouble." It still stands as my favorite Akon song. The beat is great and his vocals really flows with the song well. It's definitely something you could hear in the clubs.
Also check out: "I Wanna Love You," "Smack That" & "Lonely."
