You just don't get reggaeton artists bigger than Daddy Yankee. When his club hit, "Gasolina" exploded onto the scene in 2004, it was welcomed in both mainstream United States and Latin America. His unmistakable sound of big bass, heavy beats, and smooth raps got him attention everywhere and quickly drove his album, "Barrio Fino" to the top of the charts. It became the first reggaeton album to debut at number one on the Billboard Charts to this day. Born Raymond Ayala in Puerto Rico, Daddy Yankee has built a following of fans that watch his every move and still anticipate more.
Recommendations:
"Gasolina" - Undoubtably his most successful track to date, this song has the energy and beats that any club hit needs. I was visiting family in Mexico when this song actually came out. Trust me, it was always on the radio. Always. I couldn't escape it even if I wanted to. But hey, who'd want to escape such a great track?
"Lo Que Paso, Paso" - Channeling the vibe of both Salsa and Hip-Hop, this song has the perfect beat for the dancefloor. It's smooth, but still has the significant sound of Daddy Yankee.
"Rompe (Remix)" - Ok, so the original version of the song is great, but the remix os just as cool. There's two guest rappers from G-Unit, and there definitely add to the song rather than change it. Check it out, and listen for Daddy Yankee's fast-paced rap towards the end. Even I'm still trying to get the whole of what he's saying.
