It's been said before, and I shall say it again, "Freddie Mercury would be proud." With vocals that can hit those high notes, Mika is certainly a breath of fresh air and pop music. With a new album, "Life In Cartoon Motion," Mika is set to take the pop charts by storm. However, life hasn't been so uplifting for Mika in the past. He dealt with escaping a civil war, childhood ridicule for his dyslexia, and record companies forcing him to conform. His first single, "Grace Kelly" is a song that shouts back at those people ("Shall I ben over, should I look older, just to be put on your shelf.") So here he is, breaking out with a flamboyant and high-energy debut that is sure to please.
Recommendations:
"Relax, Take It Easy" - Let's just call this really really great disco pop music. Synths and beats and vocals. They all just blend perfectly in this song that's a reminder to just "chill." You gotta hear this.
"Grace Kelly" - Oh, the song that introduced MTV to Mika. I've known about Mika for quite a while actually so I was really surprised to turn on my tv and see him there. It's one of Mika's most popular songs and for good reason. He used that falsetto voice of his in ways that almost seem impossible. Seriously, try hitting that high note in the chorus. I did and my voice cracked. hahaha.
"Love Today" - Mika actually describes this song as very "commercial." I guess he was right because it was recently used in a Verizon commercial for one of their latest phones. It's a great song nonetheless with a universal message that everyone is sure to agree with.
