So when I told all of my friends that I was going to see My Favorite Highway, their immediate reaction was to gape at me in shock and wonder why in the world I had a favorite highway, but after much explanation and a little help from my ipod, I managed to make them fall in love with "quite possibly the best unsigned band out there right now," according to absolutepunk.net. I agree with them, My Favorite Highway is absolutely amazing. I really can't come up with the words to describe this band, they're incredible really. They're like a local band, yet 10 times better than any local band you've probably ever witnessed. Once again, absolutepunk says it best when they say that" Great bands are defined by great songs; and in the age of MTV and a constantly changing music industry great songs are hard to come by. It is this group's ability to compose great songs that will define their success." Truly, My Favorite Highway has managed to come up with some really great songs. Even though they don't have an official CD out, they do have two EPs under their belt and have perfected a live performance that is even more incredible than their recordings; which is incredibly rare in today's music industry where everything is digitally enhanced. Give these guys a chance and they'll leave you begging for more, I promise.
Recommendations:
"Closer" - Dave, the lead singer, and Bobby, the drummer, both agree that this is their favorite song to play and you can just see it in their faces when they perform. My Favorite Highway is genuine; they put 120% into every song and it shows. Each and everyone of their songs, including this one, has a pop sound. But it's not Brittany Spears-esque trash pop; think more towards a mix between The Fray and The All American Rejects.
"Murder On The Radio" - My Favorite Highway is the only pop band I listen to, and this song perfectly embodies the reason why. Their lyrics are amazing and they sing about things that everyone can relate to. Oh and there's the fact that Dave's voice is absolutely amazing in this song, that helps too.
"The Worst Way To Retaliate" - My favorite song of theirs. Right away, the tempo's different from anything you've probably ever heard before. I love all their songs, they're songs that you can sing and dance and laugh to, but there's just something about this one; even though it's a breakup song, I still adore each and every verse of it.
