Porcelain and the Tramps
[Official MySpace]
By: Maria
For Fans Of: Nine Inch Nails, Motley Crew, Distillers, Paramore
Porcelain and the Tramps are led by, you guessed it, vocalist Porcelain (Alaina Beaton). Discovered by her manager Marvin Howel at The W hotel in NYC, she now writes all of the songs and is the backbone of this stunning group of musicians. Although the names of the other band members are nowhere to be found online, their myspace blog hints on nicknames such as "Snake" and "Rocko". The group went out to Los Angeles to record music, but recently moved back to hometown Detroit "Rock City" Michigan in 2007. Their myspace is labelled as "Industrial, Electronica, and Alternative" resulting in very modern, original, and overall extremely catchy music. Beats mainly include your typical rock setup (heavy guitar, percussion, bass) with an occasional addition of slight techno backbeats. I would dub this group as being "The Distillers.. meets Paramore", but don't take my word for it - listen for yourself!
Recommendations:
King of the World - Explicit. My absolute favorite! Killer beats loaded with a rock feel. This is a very versatile song, it has both calm / light parts, and heavy / intense parts to it. Topic is as you'd imagine from the title- high self-esteem and adrenaline pumping lyrics. Great for an at-the-gym playlist!
Preyingmantis - Your typical break-up song - Porcelain style! Chorus is absolutely to-die-for and will most likely get stuck in your head. The beat is somewhat slower, but it is definitely not a sissy song. Vocals are borderline singing / SLIGHT yelling.
Sugar Cube - Catchy beats and lyrics with a lighter feel than most of their songs. Definitely badass sing-in-the-shower material. The lyrics depict a girl wanting to dance and party at a club all night. This is probably their most PG piece.
Redlight District - Another song about sex. Extremely catchy and upbeat, easily stuck in your head. It'll "make you dirty boys blush".
