The Audition
By: S6 Staff - Sebastian. In 2003, a band called The Audition was born in the city of Chicago, Illinois. The band was started by their current drummer and bassist (Ryan and Joe). As for the rest of the band members, they kept rotating in and out throughout their early early years. They started out by recording demos and playing small shows with local small bands like The Academy Is... [back when Academy was still a local unsigned band.] Eventually, they ended up with their first solid members including Danny on vocals, and Seth and Timmy on guitar. With the demos and a debut EP, they caught the ear of Victory Records. They were signed and released their first full-length album Controversy Loves Company late 2005. Since then, their fan base as grown plenty. They have toured with bands like Mae, Jack's Mannequin, Head Automatica, Lovedrug and more. They also landed a spot on the newly released "Punk Goes Acoustic 2" compilation with an acoustic version of their song "Don't Be So Hard." Though they haven't released any more records, the band continues to tour constantly. Recommendations:
"You've Made Us Conscious" - This isn't the band's most popular song for no reason. Though the somg's guitar riffs are quite simple, they are still powerful. And the song holds a message about how society is trying to make everyone the same. If you watch the video, it shows just that. A large group of people getting programed to be the same, while one person escapes and goes to bring back the individuality in everyone. "Approach the Bench" - Many of the band's songs were written with a theme to them. This song, I believe, was written to sound like a testimony in court. I believe the song is about Danny [the vocalist] confessing some wrong doing, but saying he is not sorry and not ashamed of what he has done. "The Ultimate Cover Up" - This one is about someone going to far with something and biting off a little more then they can chew. I would say Danny almost sounds angry [in a way] in this song. And with the music to back it up, this is a very strong track. "Don't Be So Hard" - I like how this song starts of very lightly, then falls into a faster tempo. It's one of my favorites by the band. The first time you hear the chorus, it probably won't make any sense to you whatsoever but as you listen to the song, you'll start getting it.
