The Cab
By: ximeng
The newest member of the Fueled By Ramen / Decaydance family, The Cab is a fivesome made up of Alex DeLeon, vocals; Cash Colligan, bass and backup vocals; Alex Marshall, piano, guitar, backup vocals; Paul Garcia, lead guitar; and Alex Johnson, drums. The band says that their main influences come from bands such as Blink 182, Sum 41, Taking Back Sunday, and The Bled. Even though the band has only been around since August of last year, they've already developed a large and devoted fan base in their home town of Las Vegas as well as earning the attention of fellow Vegas natives, Panic! At The Disco. In fact, if you pay close attention to their music video for their single "I'll Run" you'll catch Panic! vocalists Brendon Urie playing the guitar with the band. Bassist, Cash Colligan, was quoted saying "A Cab, it can take you where you want to go, and that's what we hope to accomplish through our music, our lyrics and the way we present them" It'll be interesting to see where these boys take their music in the next few years but for now, pick up their EP Glitz and Glamour.
Recommendations:
"Drunk Love" - Fun and edgy, punk yet with a touch of pop. Come to think of it, that doesn't just describe this song. It describes the whole EP, not to mention the band in general.
"I'll Run" - I can't remember what band this song reminds me of, but it seems to me as if they're channeling…well someone. The song's catchy, but it has an almost boy-band-ish sound that doesn't sound like anything else on the Decaydance Label.
"Take My Hand" - A band's only as good as their weakest member and their message is only as strong as their voice. Well good news for The Cab, they don't seem to have any weak members and Alex DeLeon's got a strong voice and the rest of the band really must be commended for their backup vocals. I love the vocals on this song; end of story.
The bottom line, I've still got mixed feelings about this band and their sound. I guess, for the most part, I like it. It'll be interesting to see what direction they go in whether it'll be pop or more punk like their influences and the rest of their label. I'm definitely looking forward to whatever the boys put out in the future; I mean has Fueled By Ramen and Decaydance ever gone wrong with a band they've signed? Not in my opinion.
