Underoath

Easily one of the screamo industry's most talked about band , Underoath baked up another album to satisfy the needs of their diverse crowd. Though their latest album was made roughly a year ago, Define the Great Line , is still maintaining the title of Underoath's best album yet. Comfortably crowded with Christian screams and breakup ballads, Define The Great Line is also one of Underoath's best selling albums.
Though Underoath has "made it" in the world of struggling bands, it wasn't always constant for the six man group. First getting their star in former vocalist Dallas Taylor's bedroom in Ocala, Florida (1998), Underoath was first introduced to the world as a grindcore/black metal band, harder than what their current fans are use to. Underoath's first three albums, Act of Depression, Cries of The Past, and The Changing of Times followed the grindcore genre. However, Changing of Times was the only album to essentially sell big for the group.
Underoath obviously joined Warped tour to promote their first big album, Changing of Times but couldn't fulfill their obligations due to vocalist Dallas Taylor, who was experiencing relationship trouble. Taylor left the group and Underoath was absent of direction. The group then made a quick exit from their troubled spot and headed on tour with Atreyu with a temporary vocalist. It wasn't until late 2003 did Spencer Chamberlin join the group.
They're Only Chasing Safety was Underoath's next album which gave them steady ground for their success. Selling 350,000 albums, They're Only Chasing Safety introduced their devoted fan base a softer, yet hardcore side, quite a distance from their grindcore/black metal past. This album also reached #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and did quite well on Billboard 200. Then of course there is Define the Great Line. Released in 2006, Define The Great Line reached Gold (500,000 albums), #1 on Christian Rock Charts and debuted at #2 on Billboard 200. Though sometimes facing internet rumors, the band insists they are united as one and will continue their six man show.
Recommendations:
"In Regards To Myself" - Though the song is depressive in nature, it allows you to grasp what exactly Underoath is expressing through Define the Great Lines (sorrow, pain, recognition of fault and change). It is the most vibrant song off the album. Spencer also did so well on it! This song can be found on their current album, Define The Great Line.
"Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape" - Though this song is softer than what most know Underoath to produce, it is quite moving. It is also more in touch with the Christian aspect of the band. This song can be found on their album, They're Only Chasing Safety.
"I'm Content With Losing" - The vocals, drums and guitar all meet to form Underoath's best song ever. It is constantly updating the listener with movement and lyrics. This song can be found on their album, They're Only Chasing Safety.
