Making an image black & white / Desaturating
Alrighty, so let's say you want to take a color picture and make it black and white. The process is pretty
easy actually. We can make our image black and white by doing a thing called "desaturation." Basically, we take out the colors and leave
only the grayscale colors. To begin, take your picture and open it up with Photoshop. I'm going to use this one:
Next, go to your top toolbar and select:
Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation

After you've done that, look at the window that's now opened up. See the saturation slider? Just move that slider
all the way to the
left.

It'll make the saturation -100, thus giving you your final piture,
in black and white:
