Installling Cutenews

Note: Your site will have to use PHP for this program to work. Cutenews will not work on websites that use HTML files for their pages. To learn how to convert your site to PHP includes, click here.

Cutenews is a great little blogging program for php users. It's simple, easy-to-use, and easy to install! First off, you'll need to download the files from the Cutenews website. Click here to download the latest version of the program.

Once you've downloaded and unzipped those files, you'll need to upload them to your website. Select the folder named "Cutenews" (it will have sub-folders named "data," "inc," "rte," etc.) and upload it to your website using your FTP program. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to upload all of these files.

Now, through your FTP program, open up the "Cutenews" folder. It should look something like this:

Next, you'll have to "CHMOD" some files. I don't really know what "CHMOD'ing" is, but all I know is that it's easy. You'll have to "CHMOD" all the files in the "Data" folder AND the "Data" folder itself. (Very important.) To CHMOD these files, just right click them and select "File Attributes." (It may be called "Properties" for some people.)

A little window should pop up with a whole bunch of check boxes. Don't worry about these, go directly to the three-digit number at the bottom of the window. You'll need to change this number to "777" (for every file in the Data folder and the Data Folder itself. Remember this!)

Once you've done that, you can proceed to go to the Cutenews Control Panel. It's conviniently located at: www.YOURSITESNAME.com/cutenews. (For example: my own Cutenews is located at Rewindd.com/Cutenews. See?)

You'll be greeted with an index page telling you if you've installed everything correctly or not. If you made a mistake, this is where it'll tell you how to fix it. If you've installed Cutenews correctly though, continue by clicking the "Proceed Installation" button.

You'll be asked to set up your account. Easy stuff, just do that how you would any other new account. Once you've done this, your Cutenews is ready and raring to go. To get the news onto your site, paste this code where you want the news to show up:

<?PHP include("cutenews/show_news.php"); ?>

(For example: I post my news on the main page of my website. To do that, I pasted this code in my index page between the "header" and "footer" tags.)

To test your Cutenews, click "Add News" from your menu bar and post anything:

If there's no problems, the news should show up directly on your website. Great! You've successcully installed Cutenews.
