Cutting a PSD
So you want to cut out of picture of a person or object? Keep in mind it does take some time. You'll get better
the more you practice though. Here's a basic way to cut out a "PSD."
First, open up a Photoshop document with the picture you wish to cut out. I'm going to use this picture of Gwen
Stefani. Feel free to use it for this tutorial.
We're going to have to make this picture one layer without a background though. To do this, go to your layers
and right click the picture. Select "duplicate layer" from that menu. (In case you don't have this on your main
page, please go to the top menu bar and select: "window > layers.") This will create the same layer on top of
each other.

Right click the bottom one on the layer selector and select "delete." You should now have one layer.
Now, from your toolbar, choose the "polygonal lasso" by rightclicking the lasso button and selecting it from the drop menu.

Next we're going to zoom into the picture to make a crisp cut out. Press these buttons: "Ctrl" and "+". This will enlarge the picture so we can work with it better. Press this combo about three times to get close enough.
Simply use your "polygonal lasso" and outline the parts of the picture you want to delete. Be exact!

Once you've finished outlining the section, press the "delete" button on your keyboard. This will erase that section.
(If you can't find the button on your keyboard, just press "Ctrl" and "X" to erase instead.)You should now get a checkered background instead of the one on the picture. Great! It means you're erasing away the background.

You'll have to continue this process until the whole picture is done. Once you've finished, you will get your
cut out picture on top of a checkered pattern.

Congrats! You've cut out a PSD. To save this psd, simply click "ctrl" and "S" and save it as a "Photoshop (PSD)"
document. Name it whatever you please.
